Motorola Minitor VI programming settings

Not a dealer? Visit our retail web site.

There are 3 different Minitor 6 alert types:

  • Tone: The pager plays a tone (beeps)
  • Vibrate: The pager generates a vibrate pattern
  • Tone & Vibrate: The pager plays a tone (beeps) and generates a vibrate pattern simultaneously

Note: While the pager is in the Amplifier Charger it will not alert if set vibrate.

For each of the Minitor 6 pager call address the pager can alert in different ways: standard, continuous, 8 musical and 5 user defined custom alerts available for user to choose from for when the Function Mode Alert Type is tone.

There are 3 different Minitor 6 announcement types

  • Standard: Announces the mode, frequency number and alert type that are programmed for current switch position
  • Enhanced: In addition to the Standard announcement, announces On/Off Duty, Push-To-Listen, Priority Alert, and Privacy when programmed for the current switch position
  • Custom: Plays the custom announcements stored. You can store up to eight different custom function switch announcements in the pager

When the Minitor VI function switch announcements are enabled, this allows the user to set the type of announcements to be played. These announcements are played when pager is powered ON or when the function switch is moved to a new position.

Minitor 6 Battery Level Announcement:

  • On: User will receive voice announcements to indicate battery level. Ex. “Battery Full”, “Battery Medium”, “Battery Low” and, “Battery Critically Low”.
  • Off: Voice announcements to indicate battery level will be disabled.

Note: The battery LED will indicate the status of battery level on release of the Minitor VI reset button irrespective of Battery Level Voice Announcement settings. Ex. Solid Green LED for Battery Full, Solid Yellow for Battery Medium, Solid Red for Battery Low and, Flashing Red for Battery Critically Low.

Minitor 6 Function Switch Announcements:

  • On: User will be notified of channel knob position with voice announcement.
  • On & On Reset: User will be notified of channel knob position with voice announcement and also upon release of Reset Button.
  • On Reset Only: User will be notified of channel knob position with voice announcement only upon release of Reset Button.
  • Off: User will NOT be notified of channel knob position with voice announcement.

Note: For disabled function switch position, a continuous tone will be played.

Minitor 6 Frequency Programming rules:

  • VHF calculation N = (Fx + IF)/Channel_Step Where Channel_Step = 2.5 kHz. If N is an integer, Fx is a valid frequency. Otherwise, Fx is not programmable.
  • UHF calculations N = (Fx - IF)/Channel_Step Where Channel_Step = 6.25 kHz. If N is an integer, Fx is a valid frequency. Otherwise, Fx is not programmable.
  • Tone & Vibrate: The pager plays a tone (beeps) and generates a vibrate pattern simultaneously

Above, we use Fx to represent receiver frequency (in MHz), IF to represent intermediate frequency (in MHz).

Minitor 6 Tone Spacing Rules:

  • Each tone (unless exactly the same) must be spaced from all other tones by a pre-determined spacing.
  • Each tone is compared with every other tone previously programmed as follows:
    • Subtract the lower frequency tone from the higher frequency tone.
    • Divide this number by the higher frequency tone.
    • The result must be greater than the pre-determined spacing.
  • The spacing is determined by the bandwidth of decoder chip. spacing = 2*(bandwidth*0.2%+0.001)+0.0015. The default bandwidth is 3, therefore, the default spacing is 1.55%

Example: A=952.5 Hz and B=967.5Hz (967.5 - 952.5 = 15 Hz) (15 / 967.5 = 0.015503875) acceptable tone spacing

Minitor 6 function switch mode setting:
  • Selective Call: This mode allows two-tone and long-tone page detection. Only one frequency can be monitored for paging tones at any given time. When a page is detected, the Minitor VI generates a Page Alert and performs voice storage. In selective call mode, audio will normally remain off. Upon receiving a page, audio will turn on immediately after the page alert (enabling carrier squelch operation). The Minitor VI will turn audio off according to the reset function defined for the channel. Special cases are additional programmable options such as Off Duty, Priority Tone Alert, Push To Listen, and Privacy mode.
    • Note: Selective Call can be set for up to 5 different frequencies, labeled as F1, F2, F3, F4 and, F5.
  • Monitor: This mode provides the user a means for monitoring activity on a programmed frequency (carrier squelch operation). Only one frequency can be monitored at any time. When a page is detected, the Minitor vi pager generates a Page Alert and performs message storage.
    • Note: Monitor can be set for up to 5 different frequencies, labeled as F1, F2, F3, F4 and, F5.
  • Probability Scan: This mode provides the user a means to monitor the traffic on two different frequencies. The Minitor VI pager is not guaranteed to alert on either frequency. The Minitor VI pager monitors any activity on either frequency, with no frequency having precedence. If activity is detected on either frequency, the receiver will lock on that frequency until transmission ends. The Motorola Minitor VI pager will turn audio off according to the reset function defined for the channel. At this time the receiver will resume probability scan activity. When the pager is locked onto either of the scanned frequencies the pager will alert to the correct address tones for that frequency and message storage is started.
  • Priority Scan: This mode provides the user a way to monitor the traffic on two different frequencies. One frequency must be preprogrammed as a priority frequency; and the second frequency can be preprogrammed as a non-priority frequency. The priority frequency has monitoring precedence over the non-priority frequency. If the Minitor VI pager is in the scan mode and monitoring frequency activity on a non-priority frequency then the pager scans back to the priority frequency at programmed intervals. If activity is detected on the priority frequency the Motorola Minitor VI pager will then lock on that frequency. Scanning is stopped until the priority frequency becomes inactive. The pager will turn audio off according to the reset function defined for the channel. At this time the receiver will resume priority scan activity. Pager will only alert on detection of alert tones on priority frequency. Address detection is turned OFF for the non-priority frequency
  • Silent Scan: Two of the Motorola Minitor VI pager frequencies are programmed, and neither is a priority. The pager alternately scans the two frequencies. Audio will normally remain off. When a page is detected, the Minitor VI generates a Page Alert and performs voice storage. Upon receiving a page, audio will turn on immediately after the page alert (enabling carrier squelch operation). The Minitor VI pager will turn audio off according to the reset function defined for the channel. At this time the receiver will resume silent scan activity. Alerting is NOT guaranteed on either frequency.
